Alstonefield is a quiet picturesque village set in the stunning scenery of the Peak District National Park. It nestles in the hills between Dovedale and the Manifold Valley and is an ideal centre for walking, cycling, touring or simply relaxing in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.
Sleeping 2 people, 1 Church Lane is a traditional, comfortably furnished, semi detached stone Derbyshire holiday cottage located in the heart of the village and provides a cosy retreat for a couple wanting to get away from it all for a break.
Dovedale is about 10 minutes walk down the lane and there are so many wonderful and varied circular walks from the door you could quite happily abandon your car for the week upon arrival. The holiday cottage is about 200 yards from ‘The George’ which is a popular pub with walkers and is now establishing itself as a fine dining venue as well, so again, no need to wander too far!
As well as the diversity of walks on offer, cycling is also popular with cycle hire available on both the Tissington and Manifold Trails (along disused rail tracks) a few miles away. The nearest towns are Ashbourne and Buxton both 6-7 miles away, they are both very interesting, historic Derbyshire market towns still holding weekly outdoor markets as well as good antique shops and a wide range of other retailers, including supermarkets.
Chatsworth House is a magnificent country house with wonderful gardens well worth a visit, as is Haddon Hall and Biddulph Grange all within easy travelling distance. Alton Towers is likewise only about 30 minutes away if theme parks are more your thing!
The Accommodation
Sleeps 2 - Sorry no pets or smoking
Alstonefield cottage has recently been updated to provide all the comforts of modern living without detracting from the charm and natural features of the original building. There is full gas central heating with an open coal fire in the oak beamed living room. The window seat in the living room overlooks the private and secluded, south facing garden at the back of the cottage with it’s wildlife pond and outdoor patio – wonderful in the summer for sheltered ‘al fresco’ dining, (outdoor furniture provided).
Also in the living area is a flat screen TV plus DVD player, comfortable seating, reading lights and a dining table.
The kitchen is modern and well equipped with an electric cooker, fridge-freezer, washing machine and microwave oven together with a small dining table and chairs. A small welcome basket of food basics will be there on your arrival – eg. bread, milk and eggs from the new farm shop attached to the pub, but it is probably useful to note that there is no other shop in the village, the nearest one being about 2 miles away.
Beyond the kitchen is a cloakroom area and the newly decorated bathroom which has a white suite with a bath plus a shower over it.
From the living room a pine staircase leads up to the spacious and comfortable double bedroom which is decorated in warm, neutral colours.
All bedlinen and towels are provided and all heating and lighting costs are included in the rental price.
There is ample safe parking immediately outside the cottage on the lane, which leads only to the church and is a no through road, making it a very quiet and peaceful location.
